The District of Columbia's education statute mandates the development and availability of dropout prevention programs by the DC Board of Education and the DC Public Schools. However, no new funding has been allocated in the District of Columbia to finance programmatic initiatives targeting dropouts.
The district has set its compulsory attendance age at 18, although it does not cap the maximum public entitlement age.
Beginning with the class of 2010-11, the District of Columbia plans to report a four-year cohort graduation rate.
