Michigan's emphasis is on improving its collection and reporting of data, and not on any programmatic initiatives. In 2007, the state passed HB 4359 requiring the State Department of Education to review and audit pupil accounting for the reporting of accurate data. A year later, Michigan began reporting graduation rates using the National Governors Association's methodology, and incorporating it in the state's accountability system.
Michigan has not raised its compulsory attendance age since 2002; it remains at 16 years of age. The state's maximum public school entitlement age is set at 20.
