DROPOUT PREVENTION & RECOVERY

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Senate Bill 116 (2002) established New Hampshire's Dropout Prevention and Recovery Oversight Committee and made it responsible for programmatic and fiscal management of the dropout prevention and recovery program within the state's department of education. The Oversight Committee is also responsible for raising funds from local, state, and federal sources both public and private. Moreover, voluntary contributions are expected from members of the committee.

New Hampshire’s dropout prevention and recovery policy provides for academic support, school-site mentors, opportunities for community service or peer-centered activities during non-school hours, and a range of work-related programs, including work-based learning and school-sponsored workplace mentoring.

New Hampshire plans to report the National Governors Association’s cohort graduation rate by the end of 2010. In 2007, the state raised its compulsory attendance age to 18. The maximum public school entitlement age is 21.
