DROPOUT PREVENTION & RECOVERY

SOUTH CAROLINA

South Carolina’s state-level dropout policy is limited to improving the state’s reporting system and increasing the compulsory attendance age to 17 in 2005. House Bill 3155, enacted that same year, strengthens the state's report card by requiring the readability and easy understanding of the accountability report card. In 2008, HB 4662 expanded the state's report card to include dropout, retention, attendance, and promotion rates.

In 2008, the state also began reporting the National Governors Association’s cohort graduation rate and including it in its state accountability system.

South Carolina's public school entitlement age is 21.
