DROPOUT PREVENTION & RECOVERY

TENNESSEE

Tennessee’s HB 99, enacted in 2007, enables postsecondary institutions and local school districts to develop innovative programming for college and workforce readiness. These programs are to be overseen by the state’s P-16 Council, which is also responsible for the articulation of courses among public high schools, state and community colleges. Although the legislation was enacted in 2007, there is no information about an operational P-16 program.

Tennessee will begin to report the National Governors Association’s graduation rate in 2011. The state compulsory attendance age is set at 17, and the state sets no maximum public school entitlement age.
