Over the last eight years, Wyoming has enacted only one piece of dropout legislation related to the development of any programmatic initiatives. Under SB 60, passed in 2009, the state created the National Guard Youth Challenge Program to provide opportunities for at risk students or those who have dropped out of high school. The National Guard Youth Challenge Program is a joint partnership between the Wyoming military department, responsible for administering the program, and the state department of education, required to provide assistance in the administration of the program.
Wyoming plans to report the National Governors Association’s graduation rate beginning in 2011. The compulsory attendance age remains at 16 and the maximum public school entitlement age is 21.
